Users refer to their hallucinatory experience with LSD as a “trip” and to acute adverse reactions as a “bad trip.” These experiences are long, and typically they begin to clear after about 12 hours. Some LSD users experience severe, terrifying thoughts and feelings, such as fear of losing control, fear of insanity and death, and despair while using LSD. Some fatal accidents have occurred during states of LSD intoxication.
Short-term effects of LSD
- Dilated pupils
- Higher body temperature
- Increased heart rate and blood pressure
- Loss of appetite
- Sleeplessness
- Tremors
- Sensations that – over,- giving the feeling of hearing colors and seeing sounds
- In higher doses, delusions and/or visual hallucinations
Long-term effects of LSD
- Mental conditions such as schizophrenia or severe depression
- Increased tolerance, requiring higher and higher doses to achieve the same effect
- Negative consequences from continued flashbacks, such as disorientation, anxiety and distress
- Unexpected outbursts of violence
- Severe depression leading to possible suicide
